Fine Art Prints

THE FINE ART OF GICLÉE REPRODUCTION

FotoTechnika's fine art prints, popularly known as giclées (zhee-CLAYS), are inkjet prints on canvas or fine art (watercolor) paper with cotton content that have specifically coated to receive aqueous inks. Our giclées are printed on a Canon wide format printer which uses specially formulated inks and are sprayed with a UV protective coating for archival stability.

The term “giclée” is contrived and actually comes from a French word that means “to spray,” so it is open-ended enough to cover any kind of inkjet print; however, the FotoTechnika definition of giclée includes only images printed on fine art media. The printmaker creates proofs from the digital file and then either confers with the customer for approval before making the final print, or can make the call for “pleasing color,” if the customer desires. Giclées can be printed in sizes up to almost 60 inches wide and over 8 feet long, depending on available sizes of media.

Because of the repeatability of digital output, giclées are excellent for limited edition series (even as limited as one), allowing our customers to print on-demand and in small quantities. Though the initial setup might seem daunting and pricey, the outcome is much more wallet and storage-friendly than having to order 500 (or more) using traditional lithographic methods -- not to mention the amazing quality of the product and personalized attention the art and artist receive.
