Scanning Services

Why should I digitize?

The preservation of your photographic heirlooms and documents should include saving images in a digital format, especially prints and film from bygone eras. Scanned items can then be easily viewed on today's technology, shared with family members, stored on the internet for group access and used to make prints/creative products.

Let's get started:

1st: Get Organized

‍Sort film, slides, prints and documents by type and size.  Arrange them chronologically or by subject. Organizing items in advance can result in significant savings. We can organize your collection for you for an additional charge.

2nd: Digitize

‍High quality images require scans at the proper resolution and size, and that’s our job. Our scanning systems can electronically digitize film, slides and almost any two dimensional media, whether you have one or one thousand. The process of digitizing film, slides and photos results in scans that can be used to make prints or can be saved digitally.

3rd: Save

‍Once we have scanned your images we can print them, or save them to a digital storage device or we can transmit them over the internet. While we are on the subject, PLEASE take time to save the digital files that you have on your smart phones, digital cameras and computers on at least two other devices. All digital storage, even the cloud, has a finite life - experts say 5 to 15 years at the most, so be prepared to convert your images to the next generation of formats and devices. The safest way to preserve images for succeeding generations is to make high quality prints.

4th: Share and Enjoy!

NOTES:

‍35mm half frame slides can also be priced as standard scans but will have black margins on all four sides..

All 35mm film is scanned lengthwise. Images that were composed vertically will need to be rotated after scanning

The standard 35mm slide

35mm has been around since the 1930s and comes in a variety of cardboard and plastic mounts. Standard scans from 35mm are not cropped.

The “plus” size slide

The 828 format looks like 35mm, but is 35mm height without sprocket holes. At 35mm prices, the image is cropped slightly on all four sides. For uncropped scans use Vintage Film prices.

Vintage: 110 & 126 size slides

110 and 126 preloaded film cartridges were designed for Kodak’s easy-to-use Instamatic cameras. 110 slides in 2x2 mounts can be scanned like 35mm in our high speed scanner, but the image will be much smaller, centered on a black background.

Vintage: 127 “super” slide

Similar to 120 film, 127 is smaller and came in many image proportions, the most popular being square. Super slides were popular for souvenir slides at tourist attractions from the 1940s through the 1970s
